10 Ways to Make Memories With Family This Christmas

At Waldron Carpentry, we believe that family is the most important thing. We also believe that time spent with family should be our top priority, especially during the busy holiday season. But this year has been a bit unusual, to say the least. It has impacted the way we spend time with our loved ones, and we have had to find creative ways to make great memories.

Even Christmas this year will be impacted by the pandemic and all of the changes that have resulted. But it can, and it should still be a special time spent with our loved ones.

So we thought we would give you 10 ideas for ways to make great memories with your family this Christmas. Here’s what we recommend:

  1. Make Christmas cookies

Making Christmas cookies is a staple of the Christmas season, isn’t it? It is an activity that everyone in the family can enjoy, no matter their age. Put on your favorite Christmas album and let your inner creativity come out. Maybe even have a contest for the best-decorated cookie!

  1. Decorate a gingerbread house

Decorating a gingerbread house is another great idea for making memories together. Each person can decorate their own house while sampling all of the decorations and drinking hot cocoa. The best part is seeing what creative ideas everyone comes up with!

  1. Watch a Christmas movie

Christmas movies also seem to be a given for holiday traditions. Every person has a favorite so take a poll of each person’s favorites and then take turns watching it. Make it a special event by moving a mattress to the living room floor or making a blanket fort to watch it from. You could even have special snacks ready or even some of those homemade Christmas cookies!

  1. Make homemade decorations

Even if you are not typically a crafty family, tis’ the season, right? There are so many fun Christmas craft ideas. The options are endless! You could make homemade ornaments with your kids’ handprints, or homemade garland to decorate the tree. The point is doing some new and fun together. Even if it’s a big flop, it’s sure to involve lots of laughing.

  1. Attend a Christmas service

A memorable family tradition is to attend a Christmas service together. This is a tradition that may be affected by the pandemic, but most churches have discovered ways to host their congregation safely. Enjoy the magic of Christmas with your family at a candlelight service and celebrate the birth of King Jesus.

  1. Have a game night

Game nights with friends and family are the perfect way to make memories together during the holiday season. Play a bunch of games or start a tournament of some kind. Enjoy some appetizers and serve a holiday drink like cider or eggnog. Everyone will leave with their hearts and bellies full!

  1. Take a family trip

There’s really no better way to make lasting memories with loved ones than taking a trip together. Your original travel plans may have been affected by the pandemic this year, but there are plenty of safe ways to travel and vacation together. Even if it’s just a weekend getaway to the beach!

  1. Enjoy an outdoor activity

The 2020 pandemic has most definitely given us all an appreciation for the outdoors. After months of being mostly at home, we all know the value of fresh air and sunshine. So take a day trip to the beach or the park. It’s a great way to get everyone out of the house and off of their phones!

  1. Give to someone in need

The Christmas season is all about giving. Instead of simply swapping gifts with each other, discuss and agree on a way to give to someone in need. You can make a card for an elderly neighbor, serve at a soup kitchen, or donate to a toy drive. It’s a guaranteed way to fill everyone with the joy of Christmas.

  1. Share a special meal

Sharing meals around the table is one of the simplest and most consistent ways to make memories together. But how often do we actually do it? Challenge your family to spend at least three nights sharing dinner around the table each week. See what great conversations take place and what lasting memories are made.

We hope this list encourages you to spend quality time together as a family. Whether you try one of the ways listed here or something else, remember there are so many ways to make great memories with loved ones this Christmas season.
